Scammers are targeting Atmos energy customers, demanding immediate payment on past-due accounts to avoid disconnection. But they ask for their account information. Jennifer Altieri, who actually works for Atmos, says that’s not how they operate.
Stephen Carpenter received a call from someone claiming to be from Atmos. Carpenter, however, was up to date with his account. And when the caller asked him to verify his account information, he immediately identified it as a scam.
Atmos Energy reps say agents who make outbound calls will never ask for account information.
Altieri said if anyone has any question of the legitimacy of the call, they should hang up and call Atmos themselves.
