Austin Police release the identity of the man who caused  a bomb scare and for you to be stuck on I-35 for several hours yesterday. 39-year-old Rodrigo Porras faces DWI charges in yesterdays crash and suspicious package incident that prompted police to shut down I-35 in both directions near William Cannon, after Porras told police there was a bomb in his car. APD bomb squad checked it out and found no explosive devices in Porras’ car.

A midday crash on I-35 in South Austin causes a fire and a shutdown. Both directions where shutdown for hours and traffic backed up for miles. The vehicle fire caused the grassy median to catch fire. APD bomb squad checked out a suspicious package but deemed it to be safe. One was hospitalized.

Austin Police say a drunk driver was responsible for the four-and-a-half hour shut down of lanes on I-35 between Slaughter and William Cannon. APD Sergeant David Daniels said the driver crashed his car into the median wall while going North Bound on the interstate and walked away from the scene.

Daniels said  special bomb and chemical teams were called in, and inspected a package and a bottle, but found everything safe. Daniels says SO FAR, the driver is being charged with a DWI.
